Looking for a reason to write about Grand Canyon Railway?

  • Two exciting new classes of passenger service: Pullman Class, a chance to ride round-trip in a vintage 1920’s Pullman Car is available for a limited time in the Summer of 2015. Also, introduced in September of 2012, is the Fred Harvey Luxury Dome. Named for the godfather of Western hospitality, this full length Luxury Dome Car combines the breathtaking panoramic views of the Observation Domes with the opulence of our Luxury Parlor Cars.
  • Beginning in April 2013, we opened our Observation Dome cars to Children ages 3-15 which gives families even more options when planning their Grand Canyon experience.
  • Steam in the 21st Century: The Grand Canyon Railway hosts popular Steam Train Weekends featuring the historic 4960, a steam locomotive powered by waste vegetable oil. Our 2015 Steam Schedule can be found here.
  • History. While en route to the Grand Canyon, train crew-members tell passengers about how train travel to the Grand Canyon evolved and helped to ensure that travel to the South Rim could be obtained affordably and comfortably by everyday Americans, not just the wealthy.
  • It’s fun. Strolling musicians with a keen sense of humor instinctively play to their audiences in each car. Children and adults alike are typically delighted, and spontaneous singalongs are not uncommon. Passengers are also entertained by a raucous gunfight portrayed by enthusiastic actors prior to boarding and a train robbery on the return trip.
  • Santa comes to town! During the holiday season, children are delighted by a nightly presentation of the popular book The Polar Express. The train travels what seems like a short distance all the way to the “North Pole,” where passengers hear a reading of the book and then get to meet Santa and his reindeer before making the return trip. Reservations for The Polar Express are available year-round.
  • The Grand Canyon Railway can be a significant part of the Grand Canyon experience. In addition to its one-night packages with a room at the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel in Williams and roundtrip passage aboard the train, the Grand Canyon Railway also offers and multi-night packages that include overnight accommodations at the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. By combining components such as lodging, train travel, some meals and a motorcoach tour at the park, these Grand Canyon Railway packages save travelers money. Plus, when the lodges at the South Rim are sold out – which happens often during the peak spring and summer travel months – booking a Grand Canyon Railway package is a good way to get a room in the park.
  • One-stop Grand Canyon shopping. The Grand Canyon Railway also accepts reservations for optional tours including float trips, helicopter tours, jeep excursions and guided hiking tours. It is easy for travelers to make arrangements for an entire multi-experience vacation by booking directly with the Grand Canyon Railway online or by phone.
