Family Friendly

A family vacation to Northern Arizona is a wise choice. And it starts with Grand Canyon Railway.

Kids of all ages love trains and there is no better way to bring this thrill to life than riding the Grand Canyon Railway. Add to it the entertainment from cowboy characters and your family is sure to have an experience you'll never forget. Plus, you get to visit the awe-inspiring Grand Canyon which has a host of activities for families. From Junior Ranger programs to tours on the rim to just taking in the sights, the canyon is a place everyone should see. In the winter time, Grand Canyon Railway hosts the Polar Express, a train departing for the North Pole and Santa Claus.

Just east of Williams is the Deer Farm. Here you get up close and personal with animals that will make you smile.

Just east of Williams is Flagstaff, where you'll find plenty to do. In the summer the mountain community is a wonderful place to take a hike or mountain bike. Hiking around the San Francisco Peaks area is a great way to spend a day. Directions and maps are available at local shops and curios. In the winter, Flagstaff is home of the Arizona Snowbowl Ski resort. Put on some skis and plow down the mountain! Or, you can visit Lowell Observatory - the place where the planet Pluto was discovered. It's located on a hill overlooking Flagstaff, close to the stars. The Arboretum is another great place to visit - home to one of the largest collections of high country wildflowers in America.

South of Flagstaff on Highway 89A is Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon. Sedona is unlike anyplace you've ever seen with its natural red-rock structures and beautiful forest. Your family will have a great time at Slide Rock where visitors may slide down a slick natural water chute or wade and sun along the creek. The swim area is located on National Forest land which is jointly managed by Arizona State Parks and the U.S. Forest Service. There are other tour providers in the area, such as Pink Jeep Tours, which provide jeep rides out the forest service roads surrounding the area. This makes for an excellent family adventure.

The area is full of fun and adventure for your family.
