Guest Service Agent I: FT SEASONAL

This is a full time seasonal position starting ASAP and ending approximately January 5, 2015. This position is responsible for greeting guests in a friendly manner, guest registration/checkout, collect payment, and provide property information to the guests, and other duties as assigned. Previous public contact work experience, ability to professionally and courteously interact with a broad cross-section of diverse guests, experience with computers and Windows based software, ability to properly and accurately handle cash and credit cards, and good verbal communication skills are a strong plus.

Guest Room Attendant/Housekeeper: FT 

This is a full-time position at the GCR Hotel. Duties include, but are not limited to: cleaning and stocking hotel rooms. Applicants must be dependable, hardworking with the ability to push housekeeping cart, and display good work ethics. Applicants must be available to work days, weekends, and holidays.

Room Inspector: FT SEASONAL

This full time seasonal position is responsible for daily inspection of assigned area at the Grand Depot Hotel (guest rooms, linen rooms, hallways, grounds, etc.) to ensure cleanliness, safety and proper conditions meet or exceed departmental and company standards. The Room Inspector reports conditions and status of guest rooms to Front Desk in an efficient and timely manner. Applicant must be willing and able to perform the duties of Guest Room Attendant, Common Area, Utility and Bell staff. Applicants must be available to work days, weekends and holidays.

Retail Sales Department:

Retail Sales Associate: PT SEASONAL

This is part time position in the Depot Retail Shop, and/or Grand Depot Café Gift Shop beginning approximately September 11,2014 and October 16, 2014 and ending approximately January 5,2015. Applicant must be able to work all shop hours, including holidays and weekends; be able to handle stressful situations in a public setting; be physically able to move merchandise from stockroom to shop display and assist with housekeeping duties of the shop.  Computer experience and be ability to operate point-of-sale terminal which includes cash, credit card, and voucher transactions; also exchanges and refunds is a plus. Previous cash handling experience preferred.

Passenger Service Attendant: PT SEASONAL

This is a part-time position working the day trains. Starting October 1, 2014 and ending approximately January 3, 2015. The applicant for this position must have the qualifications as well as willing to be trained and work in all classes of service (coach through luxury). We are hiring both full-time seasonal positions in the Ticketing Office; starting October 28, 2014 through approximately January   3, 2015. Primary scheduled to work the weekend evening shift. Make and confirm train reservations with guests in person and issue tickets; provide information about GCR, South Rim, and Williams areas; must have computer skills, cash handling, and customer service experience. Applicant must be available to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Polar Express Passenger Service Attendant Supervisor: FT & PT SEASONAL

We are hiring both full-time and part-time, seasonal positions which are located on the Train; starting October 28, 2014 through approximately January 3, 2015. The PE Chef Supervisor is responsible for helping to ensure the quality of our passenger’s experience and that necessary daily train supplies are loaded and readily available. Inspects passenger cars for appearance and cleanliness and ensures meeting daily staffing requirements from the schedule. Delegates work detail and car assignments to staff daily; assists guests with car or seating reassignments as required. Position is responsible for auditing the performance of Polar Chef’s and assisting with staff training; holds on-board staff meetings, uniform inspections and completes disciplinary write-ups and action as required. Requires the ability to operate a computer and function well in a windows operating environment. Applicant must have the ability to deal with difficult people and situations with grace and professionalism when called upon to do so. Requires well developed customer service, people and supervisory skills. Other duties as assigned by the Passenger Service Manager. Shuttle transportation may be provided from Flagstaff and/or Ash Fork; will depend upon available space. Position requires a valid Arizona driver’s license to be able to comply with the Xanterra/GCR Company Vehicle Policy.   

Polar Express Chef: FT & PT SEASONAL

We are hiring both full-time and part-time, seasonal positions on the Polar Express Train starting October 28, 2014 through approximately January 3, 2015. What better way to start the holiday season than to come be a part of helping to make the Polar Express come to life. Chef Jackets/Hats provided! Position entails a range of tasks; from setting up the Polar Express Cars, leading Christmas Carols, serving hot cocoa and chocolate chip cookies; to helping Santa pass out silver bells to all the good boys and girls. One question you must ask yourself. “Do you still believe – does the bell still ring for you?” This shift works from approximately 3:30pm – 9:30 pm. Applicants must be available to work all evenings. Shuttle transportation may be provided from Flagstaff and/or Ash Fork; will depend upon available space.

Polar Express “Elf”: FT & PT SEASONAL

This is a part-time position starting October 28, 2014 through approximately January   3, 2015. Under the direct supervision of the Passenger Services Manager, the “Elf” is responsible for creating magical memories for our guests. Duties include but not limited to: ensuring safety, playing the character of “Elf”, helping children write their letters to “Mr. C”, coloring with the children and taking advantage of photo opportunities. This position requires good judgment skills and the ability to communicate in a professional manner. The “Elf” is will be roaming the property between the Polar Room, depot platform and the Grand Depot Café creating the magic. Candidate must; be at least 16 years of age; be willing and able to tolerate and contain children in large quantities; be able to handle stressful situations in a public setting; be able to work 6+/- hour shifts, incl. evenings, weekends and holidays. Knowledge of the “North Pole” and The “Polar Express”; CPR/First Aid Certified and previous experience in theatrical role playing is strongly preferred.

Polar Express “Hobo”: FT & PT SEASONAL

This is a part-time position starting October 28, 2014 through approximately January   3, 2015. The Hobo is a strange man who calls himself the “King of the North Pole” and lives on the top of the train. Under the direct supervision of the Passenger Services Manager, the “Hobo” character is responsible for creating the magic of the Polar Express and question anyone that doesn’t believe. Duties include but not limited to: ensuring safety, playing the character of the “Hobo”, questioning children and their spirit of Christmas. The “Hobo” will wonder the depot platform between the Polar Room and the steam engine on the platform. This position requires good judgment skills and the ability to communicate in a professional manner. Candidate must; be able to tolerate and contain children in large quantities; be able to interact with passengers on a one on one basis; be able to deal with Bio-Hazard clean ups; be able to handle stressful situation in a public setting; be able to work 6+/- hours per day, including evenings, weekends and holidays. Knowledge of the “North Pole and the “Polar Express; CPR/First Aid Certified; and prev. experience in theatrical role playing is strongly preferred.

Train Dispatcher: FT

This position primarily works during the daytime but must be available to work based on the train schedules.  This position is primarily responsible for ensuring that the Grand Canyon Railway (GCR) operates in a safe and efficient manner.  Qualifications and requirements include the ability to multi-task, be detail-oriented, and able to work in a stressful environment.  Employment is contingent upon successful completion of GCOR Class.  The Dispatcher may also be required to work as work as brakeman, diesel fireman, or other positions based on individual qualifications and staffing requirements.  Applicants must be available to work weekends and holidays.

Trackman: FT

This position is an extremely physical job that requires shovel work. Job duties include replacing railroad ties and rails; assist in repair of bridges and clean right-of-ways. Applicant must be willing and able to use hydraulic tools and equipment to perform job duties: tie tamper, spike tamper and impact wrench. The applicant must be able to lift and carry 50 to 75 pounds frequently during the shift without assistance and 100 pounds occasionally without assistance. Applicant must be able to work in all types of inclement weather conditions. Employment is contingent upon successfully qualifying in Roadway Worker class. Applicants must be available to work days, weekends, and holidays; and may be called out to work extra shifts (snow removal and fire patrols during Red Flag conditions. Requires a valid/clear Arizona Driver’s License.  

Vehicle Mechanic I: FT

Position is responsible for servicing and repairing the company vehicle fleet to include all routine vehicle maintenance as well as diagnose any non-routine vehicle maintenance. Candidate must; be at least 19 years of age and possess a valid/clear Arizona Driver’s License. Requires; minimum of 3 years verifiable work experience as a mechanic w/ proficient knowledge and use of electronic diagnostic equipment; ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions; requires computer skills w/ knowledge of MS Office and ability to learn new programs. Mechanic certificate or degree from an accredited trade school or university and previous experience using INFOR computer program is preferred but not required.

Car Cleaner: FT

The work schedule for this position is typically from 5:30 PM to 1:30 AM. During Polar season crews may be split between days/night crews. This is truly a cleaning position for the passenger car fleet of the railway! Vacuum and clean seats, carpets and upholstery; polish metal surfaces, sweep and mop floors; empty trash cans; regularly wash interior and exterior of the windows, clean walls, ceilings, restrooms, service areas and exterior of train car; fill fresh water tanks; drain waste water systems using a mechanical pump truck. Job duties include cleaning the Car Shop and when necessary snow removal. This position requires climbing ladders, reaching above shoulder height, stooping, bending, and the use of hand and power tools and equipment. Employment is contingent upon successfully qualifying in Blue Signal class.

Car Cleaner: FT SEASONAL

This is a Full- Time seasonal position starting from October 23 2014 and ending January 14, 2014 the work schedule for this position will be from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM. This is truly a cleaning position for the passenger car fleet of the railway! Vacuum and clean seats, carpets and upholstery; polish metal surfaces, sweep and mop floors; empty trash cans; regularly wash interior and exterior of the windows, clean walls, ceilings, restrooms, service areas and exterior of train car; fill fresh water tanks; drain waste water systems using a mechanical pump truck. Job duties include cleaning the Car Shop and when necessary snow removal. This position requires climbing ladders, reaching above shoulder height, stooping, bending, and the use of hand and power tools and equipment. Employment is contingent upon successfully qualifying in Blue Signal class.

Cook I: FT

Thorough knowledge and experience with all stations and equipment in the kitchen including batch production, prep, pantry and dish; previous cooking experience in a high volume ala carte or batch production settings; ability to produce items to standard following menu recipe(s) for set menu and banquet items; ability to successfully complete Serve-Safe HACCP food sanitation course; possess physical ability to perform the tasks; ability to provide training to lower level Cook grades; ability to carry out duties on any situation in the kitchen; and good verbal communication skills and ability to train personnel in basic cooking techniques is desired. Candidate must be at least 18 years of age or older.

Cook 1: FT SEASONAL

This is full time seasonal position beginning approximately November 20,2014 and ending approximately December 31,2014. This is full time seasonal position beginning approximately November 20,2014 and ending approximately December 31, 2014.  This is a mid-level cook position in the Grand Depot Cafe. Previous three (3) years experience as a cook in high volume ala carte dining or institutional cooking experience preferred. Applicants should have basic knife skills and be knowledgeable in food service sanitation. Applicants must be available to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Kitchen Utility: FT SEASONAL

This is a full-time seasonal position starting November 20, 2014 and ending approximately December 31, 2014 at The Grand Depot Café/Spenser’s.  Applicant must be available to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays.  Clean dishes, operate dish machine and wash pots.  Physically demanding position requiring bending and lifting and exposure to wet floors occurs.

Kitchen Steward: FT SEASONAL

This is a full-time seasonal position starting November 20, 2014 and ending approximately December 31, 2014 at The Grand Depot Café. The Steward works with all distributors with deliveries and ensure product is acceptable and matches invoice, properly puts all orders away with the assistance of MOD, supervises and directs co-workers to accomplish tasks. Barista Platform: FT SEASONAL

This is a full-time seasonal position on the Platform starting November 20, 2014 and ending approximately December 31, 2014.  This is an evening shift. Prepare and serve coffee and other beverages, and some food products. Previous cash handling and coffee house or espresso shop experience preferred. Applicant must be able to lift about 30 lbs; and must be available to work scheduled hours: split shifts, days, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Cashier: PT

This is a part-time position for the Grand Depot Café and/or Java Crossing. This position is responsible for accuracy of cash drawer/deposit and following cash handling practices and policies, greeting guests and seeking how many are in guest’s party; completing side duties, stocking supplies and being a team player. Applicants must be 19 or older with previous customer service and cashiering experience preferred.  Knowledgeable about the various types of beer and wine strongly preferred. Responsible to meet, greet and seat guests in Grand Depot Café and other duties as assigned.

Server: PT SEASONAL

This is a full-time seasonal Host position starting November 20, 2014 and ending approximately December 31, 2014.  Applicants must be available to work afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays. The food service at The Grand Depot Cafe is buffet style dining. The Server takes beverage orders, and delivers them to the guests, as well as filling other guest dining requests.  Applicant must; be 19 years of age or older; able to multi-task; be able to lift and carry trays of beverages/plates at shoulder height.  Prefer applicants to have previous experience as a server including previous alcohol servicing experience.

Expediter: FT SEASONAL

This is a full-time seasonal position starting November 20, 2014 and ending approximately December 31, 2014 at the Grand Depot Café.  The “Expo” person is responsible for sorting dishes at the dish tank in the kitchen.  The Server brings in trays or tubs of dirty dishes from the tables and hands it off to the Expo who empties the tray or tub for the kitchen utility staff to clean.  This is a very busy position and the qualified candidate will need to be able to lift 30 to 40 lbs frequently during the shift.  Occasionally the Expo will help the Servers in the dining room by clearing tables for them and carrying the bus tubs to the kitchen.

Kitchen Utility GDC: PT

This is a part-time seasonal position at The Grand Depot Café.  Applicant must be available to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays.  Clean dishes, operate dish machine and wash pots.  Physically demanding position requiring bending and lifting and exposure to wet floors occurs.

Bartender Spenser’s: FT SEASONAL

This is a full-time seasonal Host position starting November 20, 2013 and ending approximately December 31, 2014. This position is based in Spenser’s Pub located inside the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel. The Bartender is responsible for providing prompt, efficient and courteous beverage service to guests ensuring proper mixology, portion control and content information to guests. This position is also required to work as a Server in Spenser’s when needed. Candidate must; be at least 19 years of age; be able to successfully complete company sponsored alcohol awareness training and apply methods learned; must be flexible to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays as scheduled. Previous experience bartending and serving or cocktail serving, and handling cash transactions, is a plus.

Server Spenser’s: FT SEASONAL

This is a full-time seasonal position starting November 20, 2014 and ending approximately December 31, 2014 at Spenser’s.  Applicants must be available to work afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays. The food service at Spenser’s is menu order. The Server takes beverage and meal orders, including alcoholic beverages, and delivers them to the guests, as well as filling other guest dining requests.  Applicant must be able to multi-task; be able to lift and carry tray of beverages/plates at shoulder height.  Prefer applicants to be over 21 with previous alcohol servicing experience.

 

Facilities & Maintenance Department:

Maintenance Engineer III: FT  

Applicants must be available to work days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. One-year experience in general maintenance or in trades such as electrical, plumbing or carpentry is preferred. Maintenance personnel maintain the roofing, plumbing, mechanical, environmental and electrical systems. Additional duties include construction projects, painting, custodial functions and baggage handling. Personnel drive motor vehicles and motorized specialty equipment such as mowers, sweepers and electric service vehicles. This position also requires the use of hand tools, power tools and safety equipment. Position requires a valid/clear Arizona driver’s license to be able to comply with the Xanterra/GCR Company Vehicle Policy.

Groundskeeper: FT SEASONAL

This is a full-time seasonal position starting September 3, 2014 and ending approximately January 15, 2015.  Desired candidate will possess; minimum one-year experience in turf and shrub care or landscape maintenance, knowledge of lawn care equipment including use and maintenance, physical ability to complete tasks including ability to push lawn mower, load clippings, ascend and descend ladders, ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions including summer heat and winter storms.
