GRAND CANYON RAILWAY ADDS JEEP, HIKING, HELICOPTER AND FLOAT TOURS TO ITS LINEUP OF GETAWAY PACKAGES

 

WILLIAMS, Ariz. – July 29, 2009 – The Grand Canyon Railway is now offering several new add-on tour options for travelers who purchase its Railway packages. The regional tours include an extra night at the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel at a 50 percent discount off the regular rate of $169.

 

The add-on excursion choices for those purchasing a Railway package that includes spending a night inside Grand Canyon National Park include a helicopter tour or inner-canyon escorted hike with pick-up service at the Maswik Lodge. Regional tour choices for packages that do not include a night at the Grand Canyon include a Grand Canyon jeep tour and entrance to Grand Canyon Caverns, off-road tour in the Sedona Red Rocks area or Colorado River float tour for participants of any Railway package.  All regional tours include roundtrip transportation from the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel.

 

This is our version of the cruise industry’s day excursions, except that we offer our passengers discounts instead of higher prices,” said Angela Berrigan, vice president of sales and marketing for the Grand Canyon Railway. “We have offered a great ‘base camp’ for 25 years for those who want to explore the Grand Canyon and northern Arizona. Now we can offer a one-stop solution for those who want to expand their activity choices without making separate arrangements.

 

Grand Canyon Railway packages feature roundtrip train travel to Grand Canyon National Park from Williams, Ariz., accommodations at the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel and/or inside the park and meals. Railway packages may be reserved online at www.thetrain.com or by calling 1-800-THE-TRAIN (1-800-843-8724). The optional tours may be reserved only by calling 1-800-THE-TRAIN.

 

All packages feature the option of adding on regional tours that feature pick-up and drop-off service at the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel. Participants in the tours receive a 50 percent discount on an extra night’s stay at the hotel. Rates for the tours include the extra night in the hotel and are based upon double occupancy.

 

The Grand Canyon Jeep Tour features an inner canyon 22-mile tour descending 3,500 feet on the Hualapai Reservation and a one-hour tour of the Grand Canyon Caverns. Lunch is included. Rates are $261 for adults and $218 for children 2-15.

 

The Sedona Broken Arrow Tour of the Red Rocks features an off-road excursion in Arizona’s Sedona area with stops at places with colorful names such as Submarine Rock and Chicken Point. Rates are $218 for adults and $156.25 for children 2-15.

 

The Colorado River Float Trip begins with a tour across the Navajo Nation to Glen Canyon where participants board a raft for a 15-mile float trip with spectacular views of the canyon walls along one of the most dramatic stretches of river in the West. Lunch is included. Rates are $238 for adults and $180 for children 2-15.

 

Only the Railway Packages featuring an overnight stay inside Grand Canyon National Park may add on a helicopter tour or hiking tour. Both tours conclude in time for participants to board the train for the return trip to Williams. Rates quoted are for the tours only.

 

The Papillon Helicopter features a 30-minute ride above the widest and deepest part of the Grand Canyon from a perspective that cannot be experienced any other way. Rates are $170 for adults and $150 for children 2-15.

 

The Angel’s Gate Hiking tour features a 4-1/2 hour hike – equivalent to walking up and down the Empire State Building – into the Grand Canyon. Rates are $159 for adults and $180 for children 2-15.

 

The Grand Canyon Railway offers a variety of that make it easy for travelers to save, budget  and plan their vacations with options for overnight stays at hotels in both Williams and inside Grand Canyon National Park. The Railway also has options for people driving recreational vehicles and those traveling with their pets.
