Fourth of July Celebration

June 29, 2007 - Grand Canyon Railway and Xanterra South Rim team up for Grand Canyon Recreation Center fundraiser: Provide transportation to Williams’ Small Town Fourth of July celebration

WILLIAMS, AZ. - Grand Canyon Railway and Xanterra South Rim are making it possible for Grand Canyon residents to attend Williams’ Small Town Fourth of July celebration with low-cost transportation to and from the South Rim.

Tickets are only $3 per person with all proceeds going directly to the Recreation Center. The minimal cost serves as a Grand Canyon Recreation Center fundraiser, with Grand Canyon Railway and Xanterra donating their transportation services.

Small Town Fourth attendees will be able to travel in coach class aboard the 3 p.m. southbound train (pulled by a steam locomotive) to Williams, Ariz.

Arriving at 5:15 p.m., attendees will have plenty of time to explore Route 66 and find a position for the Small Town Fourth of July parade kicking off at 6 p.m. The parade is followed by a Rotary BBQ and then a spectacular fireworks show.

Upon conclusion of the fireworks show, Grand Canyon residents will board Xanterra South Rim buses for the return trip to the South Rim.

“We’re thrilled to be able to provide transportation to Grand Canyon residents, giving them the opportunity to combine the awe and wonder of a national treasure like the Grand Canyon with the small-town charm of Williams’ celebration and fireworks show this Fourth of July,” said Bob Baker, director of train services and engineering for Grand Canyon Railway.

And while the fireworks show in Williams may be cancelled at the discretion of fire officials, Grand Canyon residents can still take advantage of the inexpensive transportation to attend the parade and BBQ.

The trip is sold out for this year. Residents interested in the trip to Williams’ Small Town Fourth of July celebration can sign up for the 2008 journey at the Grand Canyon Recreation Center beginning June 1, 2008.

“We’re looking forward to this year’s trip to Williams and would like to thank both Xanterra South Rim and Grand Canyon Railway for this opportunity,” said Jennifer Chain, manager of the Grand Canyon Recreation Center.
